Georgetown Cupcake
“The cupcake shop that put Georgetown on the Food Network map — and the line never really went away”

The Experience
Georgetown Cupcake launched in 2008, became the subject of a TLC reality show, and has had a line out the door on M Street on most weekend afternoons ever since. The shop is compact and pink-accented — the branding is consistent and well-executed — and the display case is usually stocked with the day’s selection of classic and seasonal flavors.
The cupcakes are legitimately good: moist, not overly sweet, with real flavor in the cake and the frosting. The signature red velvet with vanilla buttercream is the one that made the reputation, and it holds up. The seasonal flavors are creative without being gimmicky.
This is not a hidden gem. It is a well-run, well-known shop that makes a quality product, and the tourists who visit as part of their Georgetown experience are not wrong to do so.
The Value Proposition
A single cupcake runs $4–5 and is genuinely satisfying. For visitors who want to bring something back from Georgetown, a box of cupcakes is a reliable choice — they travel well and the brand recognition carries some weight.
For locals who prefer their sweets without the tourist energy, Baked & Wired on Thomas Jefferson Street is the neighborhood alternative. But both are worth knowing.
Know Before You Go
Expect a line on weekends and during tourist season (spring through fall). The line moves reasonably quickly. Online ordering is available for pickup if you know what you want.
The M Street location is the original and the flagship — there are other DC locations, but this is the one. Parking on M Street is challenging; plan to walk from nearby.
