Customer Experience

Morgan’s Pharmacy occupies the corner of P Street and 30th Street in a one-of-a-kind green-framed glass vestibule — a proper old-fashioned pharmacy entrance with “MORGAN’S” lettered across the top — at what is otherwise a quiet, tree-lined residential intersection of Georgetown. It is small, warm, and personal in exactly the way a chain pharmacy is not. The staff know the regulars, the pharmacists catch interactions that bigger operations miss, and longtime front-of-house staffer Maurice Brown has been greeting customers — and handing out complimentary Ritter’s chocolate squares — for as long as most of the neighborhood can remember.

The atmosphere carries the weight of its history: vintage photographs from the pharmacy’s early years line the walls, and after current owner Dr. Sahar Kassem’s 2022 renovation, hardwood floors and a streamlined layout joined the original bones of the store. It stocks prescription medications, compounded preparations, vaccines, and a curated selection of gift items, homeopathic products, and perfumes alongside the clinical side.

Claim to Fame

Morgan’s has been filling prescriptions in Georgetown since 1912 — making it, by the pharmacy’s own account, the second-oldest pharmacy in Washington and Georgetown’s oldest continuously operating one. The Malcolm Morgan brothers who opened it even ran a soda fountain in the early years. The shop passed through several owners over the decades; Barry Deutschman, who ran it from 1992 until his retirement in 2018, became a neighborhood institution in his own right. Current owner Dr. Sahar Kassem, PharmD, a Howard University-trained pharmacist who bought it around 2022, took over with a stated mission of keeping independent pharmacy care rooted in the community it serves: free community health outreach, patient education, and the kind of medication counseling that a CVS simply does not offer.

The services reflect that ambition. Beyond filling and compounding, the pharmacy offers vaccines (flu, COVID, shingles, and others), prescription delivery and curbside pickup, medication therapy management, durable medical equipment, long-acting injectables, and specialty medication support. It accepts Medicaid and most insurance plans, is a member of the CARE Pharmacies cooperative, and participates in prescription discount programs through InsiderRx.

Preparing for Your Visit

Morgan’s is open Monday through Friday, 8:30am–6pm, and closed on weekends — worth knowing before you make the trip. Online prescription refills are available through the pharmacy’s website, and vaccines and certain appointments can be booked at morgans.timetap.com. For anything else, call (202) 337-4100.

Delivery is available for those who can’t make it in, and curbside pickup is an option when you’re nearby but short on time. As with anywhere on this residential stretch of P Street, street parking near 30th and P is tight — the closest garage is in the Wisconsin Avenue or M Street corridor.
